Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder previously helped the Houston Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their first Fall Classic after 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, the star outfielder delivered a three-run home run in the seventh frame, leading the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the anticipated World Series.

"I'm just so happy for this squad, the city, the nation," said Springer, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

The veteran has now hit 23 total playoff homers, making him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that moment except for George Springer with his playoff prowess," said manager John Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it hurts" in the wake of his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their work this season.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of this one," he added.

Toronto won the World Series on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
