Democratic lawmakers Condemn Trump After He States They Should Face Death Penalty

Democratic officials expressed outrage after the ex-president charged a group of Democratic legislators of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be detained and punished "through capital punishment" following their posting of a disputed video.

The Content That Triggered the Dispute

The recorded message, shared on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic lawmakers who in the past worked in military or intelligence positions.

"Like us, you all made an vow to protect and support this constitution," the representatives declared in the 90-second video. "And right now, the threats to our democratic foundation don't only come from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our regulations are explicit, you can refuse unlawful commands, you can reject illegal orders, you have to decline unlawful commands. No one has to execute orders that contravene the law or our founding principles."

The Former President's Furious Reply

The video message appeared to provoke a furious reply from the ex-president.

On the following morning, Trump wrote on his preferred platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate message, he wrote: "This is really serious, and Harmful to our United States. Their comments cannot be allowed to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third publication, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also reposted a declaration that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Officials Respond

Following Trump's comments on that day, Top Democrats issued a combined declaration denouncing the remarks.

"Partisan aggression has no role in America," they wrote. "Congress members who participated in the video all worked our United States with tremendous loyalty and honor. We unequivocally condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and risky calls for execution against congressional representatives, and call on Republican lawmakers to strongly do the same."

The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in touch with protective services "to guarantee the safety of these representatives and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must right away take down these unhinged online messages and withdraw his dangerous language before he causes harm," the announcement added.

Representatives' Firm Answer

The lawmakers who participated in the video also released a response.

"We identify as former service members and national security professionals who value this country and took an oath to safeguard and defend the constitution of the United States," they stated. "This commitment continues forever, and we aim to honor it. No warning, pressure, or incitement will stop us from that important obligation."

"The significant point is that the ex-president considers it punishable by capital punishment for us to restate the statutes," they stated. "Military personnel should know that we have their support as they execute their oath to the national charter and responsibility to follow only legal commands. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our duty."

They continued: "The entire nation must come together and censure the ex-president's requests for our death and partisan aggression. This is a time for ethical certainty."

More Partisan Comments

The Senate Democratic leader also condemned Trump's statements and posted on social media: "It's important to understand: the ex-commander in chief is requesting the execution of government members."

He added: "This constitutes an direct THREAT. Each congressional member, every Representative, all citizens – without partisan consideration – should censure this right away and absolutely."

The Republican House speaker supported Trump's allegation that the Democrats had participated in "treason", describing the video as "wildly inappropriate", stating: "It is very dangerous, you have leading members of the government advising troops to disobey orders, I think that's historic in US history."

The Conservative representative also allegedly informed journalists that in what he read of Trump's posts, Trump was "defining the crime of treason" but that "attorneys have to analyze the wording and decide all that."

Administration Response
