Louisiana Resident Accused of Assisting Militant Group in 7 October Assault on Israeli Territory, American Prosecutors Say

American prosecutors have accused a LA inhabitant of participating in the 7 October raid by Hamas on Israel, as per newly unsealed court documents.

Mahmoud Amin Ya'qub al-Muhtadi, 33, allegedly equipped himself and joined a paramilitary group that engaged alongside the organization during the 2023's incursion that claimed the lives of 1,195 Israeli citizens, sparking 24 months of conflict that killed many additional individuals.

Twelve months following the attack, he supposedly journeyed to the US on a fraudulent visa and obtained status as a permanent resident.

Mr al-Muhtadi was indicted with providing, trying to provide or plotting to provide assistance to a designated terror group and the deception and misuse of a travel document or other documents.

Alleged Involvement with Militant Faction

The defendant was reportedly an operative of the NRB, the military wing of the DFLP, as stated in the legal filing brought by the FBI.

He is accused of coordinating a "group of militants" to cross into Israeli territory upon learning about the attack and requested one individual to "bring the rifles", legal papers indicate.

The suspect sent messages instructing others to bring a protective gear for another man and ammunition, prosecutors allege.

A short time following the October 7 attack began, his phone pinged a signal tower near Kibbutz Kfar Aza, the sight of a deadly event, the documents said.

Legal Process and Response

The complaint indicated that Mr al-Muhtadi denied ever having been involved in acts of terror on his US visa application.

After arriving to the US, he lived in a few of places before landing in the Louisiana city, where he worked in a local eatery.

He was taken into custody on Thursday, the DOJ announced.

During a court appearance in Louisiana on Friday, he was questioned if he understood the charges against him, an translator translated his answer as "yes, but there are a lot of points mentioned in this document that are so incorrect, I am not guilty", according to reports.

The documents do not accuse Mr al-Muhtadi of specific crimes or homicides. US attorneys have previously indicted senior members of Hamas with the fatalities of US citizens on 7 October.
