Representative Ro Khanna of California Delivers Strong Warning about Jeffrey Epstein Records Release: Officials Will Be Subject to Criminal Charges’

Congressional Congressman Ro Khanna of California played a key role in the lawmaking process that prompted the former president to change his position and sign into law a bill compelling the release of records related to the deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Now that the federal justice agency is required to make public the materials over 30 days, Khanna has a strong warning for officials in the Trump administration who could be tempted to conceal evidence: follow the law or face serious consequences.

“At this point, it’s federal law for the documents to be made public, and if DOJ staff don’t release it, they will be prosecuted, and they … could be prosecuted in a future administration,” the California representative remarked.

He continued that career officials making such choices should consider that they might be subject to subsequent contempt of Congress or criminal prosecution, and they face a significant risk if they disregard the law.

Legal Summons Possibility for the Duke of York

As Democratic lawmakers hope to regain power of the House in the upcoming elections, the representative also voiced his endorsement for serving a congressional demand to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who was relieved of his titles due to his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

A top British official has previously said that Mountbatten-Windsor must respond to questions from congressional representatives about his connections with Epstein. Khanna and fellow Democrats have urged the former royal to participate in a formal questioning, but Andrew has not responded.

“A subpoena could be issued, because then, if he ever came to the US, he’d be in violation of congressional rules, and … risk criminal charges,” Khanna explained. “Maybe he does not plans to travel to the America, but if he chooses to, he would need to comply with the legal demand.”

The authority lies with the House of Representatives’s GOP-led majority to approve a congressional demand, and the congressman said that he had proposed doing so to James Comer, the Republican chair of the oversight committee that is likewise investigating the financier’s activities. Khanna has received no response, and spokespeople for the chair have not commented to a request for comment.

Background on the Jeffrey Epstein Case

A financier and former acquaintance of the president, Epstein was found dead in the year 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges, after in the past pleading guilty in 2008 to a sexual abuse charge in the state of Florida following a deal with prosecutors.

In the previous election cycle, the former president and his supporters implied that there was additional information to be uncovered about Epstein and his dealings with global elites, but in summer, the DOJ and federal investigators declared that they would cease further disclosures.

This sparked an protest among his followers as well as a significant number of his critics, which endured even after the president dismissed the matter as a partisan effort. Ro Khanna then collaborated with GOP congressman Thomas Massie on the transparency legislation, which mandates the disclosure of the official documents about Epstein.

To bypass the resistance of the legislative leader, Mike Johnson, Congressman Massie passed around a legislative tool among lawmakers to force a vote on the bill.

This effort required time to receive the 218 signatures needed to move forward, partly to the 43-day government shutdown and Mike Johnson’s unwillingness to swear in a newly elected Democratic lawmaker. Recently, Donald Trump ended his opposition to the legislation, and the lower chamber voted for it decisively. The upper chamber subsequently agreed to enact it without opposition.

“We reached the Maga base. Never before any group has ever reached the Trump’s base,” he remarked, adding that the “bravery of the victims” of the financier, who repeatedly traveled to the Capitol Hill to publicly demand the publication of the records, was equally pivotal.

Duty of the Top Prosecutor

The nation’s top prosecutor, Pam Bondi, has been accused of compromising the federal agency’s impartiality from the executive branch, and in recent days opened an investigation into ties between the party and the financier at Donald Trump’s direction.

According to the statute, the attorney general is now tasked with making public a extensive collection of files related to Jeffrey Epstein, his partner Ghislaine Maxwell and other parties who interacted with them, though there are exceptions for documents related to active cases or that could jeopardize the country’s security.

The congressman declined to guess on the potential disclosures by the files, but signaled that Democrats would not cease their efforts, and would take action against officials who do not follow the law, though enforcement will probably have to be delayed until they reclaim the leadership in one chamber of the federal government.

“In the event that we control the House of Representatives, the officials will be held in violation and in front of congressional authorities if they’re refusing to follow the law. And if there’s a future administration, they’re almost certain to enforce the law|statute
