The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller That Blends Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a girl harboring multiple personalities within her must escape from a maze of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Within her exist four distinct souls, all possessing unique fears and drives. These entities can take over at will, releasing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a eerie medical facility, though additional clips show the protagonist exploring a desolate church.

A World of Personal Horror

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that appear minor to other people can trigger something primal inside us. This game delves into that concept — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The core mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul surfaces at any given time. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. While exploring, each soul's fears become exaggerated and attack the girl in succession. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the waiting room have enormous blooms where their heads should be. Flowers are an ever-present theme, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four personas asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, since every entity can deceive or hide the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The last one standing might be a fake. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
