The most recent action-packed instalment that gamers explored was Far Cry 6, which starred Giancarlo Esposito as the antagonist, Antón, and was released during October 6, 2021. Throughout the franchise, it has a reputation for celebrating action and mayhem with similar glee, all while presenting engaging, politically driven tales. No wonder then that the network’s recent announcement for a Far Cry limited-run show pulled in two producers whose creations have embodied all of those elements.
Based on Ubisoft's popular video game property, the limited anthology series will stream on Hulu and be produced by FX Productions. The anthology will also parallel the video games' style by having a fresh location and group of personalities in every instalment.
Rob Mac, producer of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the talent behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will serve as showrunners on the series through their production banners, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be accompanied by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
“FX has had magnificent collaborations with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a collective six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are overjoyed that they are joining forces for Far Cry,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a news release. “I have no doubt that they will tell this story in a way that is original, gripping, and extremely entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our partners at Ubisoft for trusting us with this popular property.”
Mac will also appear in the show, but currently, we do not know what role that may be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently greenlit for another season, with FX and Disney agreeing to a new comprehensive agreement with the showrunner.
“Being able to collaborate together with Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” remarked Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been incredibly generous, trusting us with one of the most famous video-game universes ever created. And throughout this process, my FX family continues to lift me up with their ongoing confidence and support.”
“What appeals to me about the Far Cry game series is that it’s an standalone series. Every instalment is a take of a idea, the same way each season of Fargo is a adaptation on a premise,” explained Hawley. “To develop a big action show that can shift from season to season, while always exploring the core of humanity through this multifaceted and chaotic lens, is a ultimate goal. I’m thrilled to partner with Rob and introduce our common irreverent, ambitious sensibility to the television.”
A schedule for when we can look forward to the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will stream on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus globally.
