While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
