NFL 2025 season: Week six

We're in the sixth week of the football calendar , following last week's talk regarding two top teams as a potential Super Bowl match-up, they both surrendered their perfect starts.

Notable during those contests were the amount of infractions each committed. The Eagles did so in key moments meaning they kind of defeated themselves after leading by two touchdowns going into the final quarter against the Denver Broncos, who play overseas this Sunday.

But it was positive to see that Denver's QB the rookie managed to have that deficit before direct three successful possessions on three possessions in the fourth quarter, securing the game 21-17.

The Broncos have the top defender with CB their star corner. They are first in goal-line defense, while the Eagles are number one in red zone offence, and Denver won that battle.

They had effective strategies in terms of disguised blitzes. They did not necessarily sending more than four defenders but they could position two linebackers in the interior before drop them out and dispatch a nickel off the edge.

Early on of the season, it was noted during a show that Denver could be the current year's dark horses. They finished last season well then did a good job in continuing that momentum.

Recently acquired tight end Evan Engram has stepped up significantly while new running back their rusher is a player they believe in. He now ranks 5th league-wide for rushing yards (over 400) and tied-fourth in rushing scores (4).

It's impressive how the coach the Broncos' leader has "RUN IT!" at the top of his playcall sheet.

That shows how the Broncos are a team aiming to run first, since one can do a lot based on that approach. It reduces opposing rushes and maintains in positive down and distances.

It's also helped quarterback Bo Nix, who came the NFL as the 12th overall draft pick in the prior draft, throwing 29 touchdown passes – just behind a star QB in rookie records (31 in 2020).

Other elite QBs possess powerful arms to pass anywhere, but they don't move the mobility as Nix. He boasts incredible arm talent, a unique trait, and he's highly agile.

His assets include his mobility, the capacity to throw while moving, and finding varied release points to deliver throws as he moves outside protection, the bootlegs. He can deliver precision throws over the middle and past defenders.

As a rookie QB, at 25, he's got a lot of composure under pressure and is not bothered by the blitz. He tries to evade being tackled whenever possible and is able throw in tight spots. He possesses a high football IQ and is quick to decide.

If you constantly run the ball it consumes the clock and makes the opponent to stay in play extended periods, and when you've got an athletic quarterback the defense has to cover the field vertically side to side. It can be draining.

Nix has bitten back with the coach on the sideline sometimes and I think the coach appreciates that fire, seeing him as a fierce rival. In my view it's fun for him to have a rookie QB who's kind of like moldable clay. He can truly build something up the way he desires to shape him. I believe it's a special experience for the coach.

The head coach has won a Super Bowl and now passed a legend in all-time victories (173, tying for 14th). He's seen everything. In my opinion the achievements Denver are experiencing offensively is largely down to his guidance, his play-calling, his situational awareness – and the combination with the QB aids shape him what he is.

You wouldn't want a better guy guiding you, to assist you during some of the tougher situations and boost self-belief.

I believe in Denver's defence, in the QB's grit and calm. Yet is the team strong enough to face a top squad at its best? Because that wasn't championship-level play by the Eagles in their last game.

Currently, it's unlikely the Broncos are incredible. They're working above average, which is a solid position to be in the AFC West. The key to do to continue this path.

They're really good at leaning into their strength, that is the ground game, and that's precisely what they must do against the Jets at Tottenham. It's going to be a Dobbins-focused game, in essence.

The Jets have allowed 140 rushing yards per game (sixth worst), five rushing touchdowns this season (10th worst), and they're the sole squad yet to win any game.

Since the league began tracking turnovers decades ago, this team are also the first team to be without any turnovers through five games, which is surprising considering that the head coach Aaron Glenn defensive co-ordinator at the Detroit Lions.

After this Sunday's game, Denver have a smooth-ish schedule until their bye (in week 12) - the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans plus the Raiders prior to the Chiefs.

Looking at the AFC West, Kansas City are 2-3 while Denver are tied with the Los Angeles Chargers on 3-2 meaning they could challenge at leading the division.
